Daring the sea of death
One of the projects I’ve spent some time on the last couple of weeks is the one I’ve called Unknown Past. It’s an idea I’ve played with for years, but I could never connect the different parts into a cohesive story until a few days ago. I realized I missed a POV character to tie the two narratives together.
Politics – Deserts – Space
The scientist Siran makes a discovery that casts doubt on the past society has been told for centuries. In the capital, during an especially contemptuous election, the political staffer Tharech is forced to cover for his boss’s sudden disappearance to avoid a political catastrophe for his faction. In space, the navy cadet Isya is in the middle of her last test before graduation when her ship makes first contact.
The character I felt was missing was Tharech. I had always intended for the story to give glimpses into the political world, as the world includes lots of competing clans with different outlooks on the world and life. I had the catalyst, Siran, and I had the explosion of sorta in Isya, I needed Tharech to be able to show the progression of Siran to Isya naturally. I don’t want to give too much away on how. You just have to wait and see
